In 2023, we launched our first Kayak Fun Run as a Beachfest event.
Participants paddled up the Big Otter in search of answers to the five questions related to the history of Port Burwell and the surrounding area. Kayakers had to locate five stations along the Big Otter where the answers were located. Once they had uncovered all five answers, they headed back to the Society's pavilion to participate in a draw for prizes.
The response we received from the participants was extremely positive as they enjoyed some Port Burwell summer fun, kayaking in East Elgin. As a result of this tremendous feedback we made this an annual event.
Each year we do this, we gain from the experience and we incorporate new ways to improve the event.
We look forward to seeing you this year.
This year's Kayak Fun Run will once again held as part of Port Burwell's Beachfest weekend activities.
We will be partnering with Otter Creek Distillery to deliver a full experience of activity and fellowship.
The event will take place on Sunday, August 2nd, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Participation is by donation and all proceeds will go toward the Port Burwell Lighthouse Restoration.

This year we made some changes to our format to increase the fun.
The historic 1840 Port Burwell Lighthouse is structurally compromised and the restoration and conservation of this iconic structure needs to be addressed soonest before the structural issues worsen.
The Port Burwell Historical Society is committed to saving our lighthouse.
This year's event raised $375.00 for the Lighthouse Restoration.
For the first time, we joined with Port Burwell's Beachfest team as part of the weekend's festivities.
Our event was run on Sunday, August 3rd with a launch time of 11:00 a.m.
Launch took place at Otter Creek Distilling (https://ottercreekdistilling.ca/) at 92 Edison Street, Vienna
We changed our course. We began our adventure at Otter Creek Distilling at 92 Edison Street in Vienna. From there our adventurous paddlers headed downstream to the Municipality's Kayak and Canoe Launch on Water Street. After spashing our checkpoint staffers, they reversed course and headed back to the Distillery.
After completing the navigation of the Big Otter, our participants of legal age sampled some of the Otter Creek Distilling's finest selections and enjoyed some hot dogs, all provided free of charge by the team of PBHS and Otter Creek Distilling. (Children were provided with water to go with their gourmet tube steaks.)
