WHERE DID WE GET THE INFORMATION FOR "THE FALLEN"

Personnel Records of the First World War - Library and Archives Canada

This database combines references to various First World War personnel records. Digitization of the Canadian Expeditionary Force personnel files is complete. The database also includes digitized files for many individuals who served in the Royal Newfoundland Regiment and Newfoundland Forestry Corps (courtesy of the Rooms Provincial Archives).

This database includes names indexed from the following First World War personnel records:

  • Files of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF): Soldiers, Nurses and Chaplains
  • Files of CEF volunteers who were rejected at Valcartier
  • Non-Permanent Active Militia Files
  • Files of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment and Newfoundland Forestry Corps
  • imperial War Service Gratuity Files

Canadian Virtual War Memorial

The Canadian Virtual War Memorial (CVWM) is a registry to honour and remember the sacrifices of the more than 118,000 Canadians and Newfoundlanders who, since Confederation, have given their lives serving in uniform. The names of fallen soldiers found in the CVWM are also inscribed in the seven Books of Remembrance.

Family Search

FamilySearch is a nonprofit organization and website offering genealogical records, education, and software. It is operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), and is closely connected with the church's Family History Department. The Family History Department was originally established in 1894, as the Genealogical Society of Utah (GSU); it is the largest genealogy organization in the world.

Find a Gravel

Find a Grave is a website that allows the public to search and add to an online database of human and pet cemetery records. It is owned by Ancestry.com. Its stated mission is "to help people from all over the world work together to find, record and present final disposition information as a virtual cemetery experience." Volunteers can create memorials, upload photos of grave markers or deceased persons, transcribe photos of headstones, and more. As of 2023, the site claimed more than 226 million memorials.
